Another
wonderful celebration of art, high culture, spirituality, history and
festivities. Community leaders, Ms. Mildred Archie, a world
traveler & one of the contributors of African art and
artifacts for the Pan African & African American Arts, Black
Heritage Month programs, which included a month long educational exhibit
and Rave Preview film screenings at the Springfield, Ohio Clark County
Public Library.
Mr.
Ronald Stephens, minister, author, artist, clothing designer &
father of the renowned R & B artist, John Legend, community
advocates, Minister Raymond Lloyd Jr. provided the power point equipment
for the African American genealogy presentation. Interfaith churches,
Mayor Warren Copeland, Dave Garrett, of Dave Garrett Jewelers,
Springfield News & Sun, Dayton Daily News, Sassy's Upscale Fashions,
Garden Arts & Gifts & anonymous donors were all major
contributors to the events.
Film
Screenings of The Gospel was Mon., Feb. 6, 12:00 to 2:00 and Thurs.,
Feb. 9th, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Admission and Refreshments were
free to the public!
The
African American Heritage Celebrations continued Sat., Feb.18th,
At the Dayton Metro Library (Downtown - 3rd St., Dayton, Ohio): During
the Film Screenings, refreshments were served & vendors sold their
cultural treasures. Tours of Art exhibits were showcased for the
community to enjoy. The event was also free to the public!
"In
Keeping Our Heritage Alive", The African American Arts and The Pan
African Institutes partnered with the Springfield, Ohio East Main Street
Kroger Store. Presenters Mr. Arthur Thomas and Mrs. Dorothy Tuck
introduced to the community the importance of history research in family
genealogy.
The
event was free & Kroger served pizza and soda to Schaefer middle
school students & participants on Friday, February 24th from
1:00 - 2:30 pm
